Small town rapper from Columbus Missouri, was put on my radar towards the end of 2016. The song “3deep” became a constant replay for at least two months and as time went by Oliver became one of  my favorite artist to date. Maybe it’s the production quality or the fact that although many of his songs sound similar, he has some how found a way to connect with his audience In ways I don’t think many artists of this generation have.

After releasing his latest album “A Million Miles An Hour” in early October of 2017, I noticed that this small town, soundcloud rapper could potentially make a big splash in the industry. Unfortunately to date, I feel like Oliver is still being slept on by big voices in the industry. Before anyone perceives this as some sort of hate I can almost guarantee why this is.

Oliver prides himself in not having a deal, throwing all the same friends in his music videos and keeping a very tight circle. Oliver isn’t in it for the money stating:

“I ain’t in this for a check, I do this shit cause I love it”
- Gemini
and as we’ve seen with many artists like Lil Pump who become slaves to the music industry, I can see why Oliver wants to individualize himself; realizing that it’s not about the money, or the fame, its about creating a lifestyle out of something that you love to do. I think this is why I like this quote from “Gemini”, because this is what the Rose Review is about. I think this is what all artists should be about. I think that’s something that many of us as human beings should value more of; our ability to feel joy for something and participating in it no matter the incentive.

What frustrates me most is the fact that Oliver isn’t bigger than he is, and people like Lil Pump and 6ix9ine can just scream in to a microphone and make music with out an inch of meaning behind it and still make millions. All while small town artists work their asses off to make music with substance and meaning only to fall into the background. I thank Oliver for being an inspiration, as well as many others and I hope this put you on to a new artist that will further more inspire young and growing musicians to stay true to who they are and prosper no matter the road blocks that stand before you.
